Chemical balancing Canberra

Pool chemical balancing and water testing.

On site pool chemical testing across Canberra, with accurate dosing and the actual readings sent to you afterwards.

Almost every pool problem is a water chemistry problem wearing a disguise. Cloudy water, stinging eyes, algae that keeps coming back, a chlorinator working overtime: all of it usually traces back to levels being out. Billy’s Pools does pool chemical balancing and pool chemical testing on site across Canberra, with the readings written down so you can see what changed.

Why Canberra water moves so fast, Canberra

Why Canberra water moves so fast

Canberra runs hot and dry in summer and genuinely cold in winter, with big day to night swings. Evaporation concentrates some levels and strips others, strong sun burns chlorine off quickly when the stabiliser is low, and heavy autumn leaf litter loads the water with organics. That is why testing every single visit matters more here than in a milder climate.

  • Summer: chlorine demand and evaporation
  • Autumn: organic load from leaf drop
  • Winter: low circulation and rising algae risk
  • Spring: the catch up nobody enjoys
Salt pools and chlorinators, Canberra

Salt pools and chlorinators

If you have a salt pool, the chlorinator is doing the chlorine work but it can only work inside a narrow band of salt level, pH and cell condition. We check salt levels, inspect the cell for scaling and tell you when a cell is genuinely at the end of its life rather than when it would be convenient to sell you one.

  • Salt level tested and corrected
  • Cell inspected for scale and wear
  • Chlorinator output checked against demand
Common questions

Chemical balancing questions, answered

What does pool chemical balancing actually involve?
We test your water on site for chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabiliser and salt where relevant, then dose accurately to bring each level back into range. You get the readings and what we added in your email summary.
How often should pool water be tested in Canberra?
Every visit. Canberra gets hot dry summers, cold winters and big temperature swings between day and night, and all of that moves your water chemistry around faster than people expect. Testing every service is the cheapest insurance there is.
Why does my chlorine disappear so quickly in summer?
Usually low stabiliser, high water temperature and strong Canberra sun burning chlorine off faster than the chlorinator can make it. It is a fixable problem once the water has been tested properly rather than guessed at.
My eyes sting after swimming. Is that too much chlorine?
Almost always the opposite. Stinging eyes and a strong chlorine smell usually mean the pH is out and chloramines have built up, not that the water is over chlorinated. A proper test tells you in two minutes.
Do you charge for chemicals separately?
Yes. The standard service is $90 plus chemicals, so you pay for what your pool actually needs on the day rather than an averaged rate that covers someone else’s pool.
