FAQ

Pricing and booking

How much does pool cleaning in Canberra cost?
Our standard pool service package is $90 plus chemicals. That covers testing and balancing your chemicals, emptying the pump basket, skimmers and pool cleaner bag, skimming debris, brushing the walls, vacuuming the pool, a general inspection of all equipment and an email summary. Larger pools, one off cleans and neglected pools are quoted after we have seen the pool.
How often should a Canberra pool be serviced?
Through the Canberra swimming season, most pools do best on a fortnightly service, moving to monthly over the colder months. Canberra summers are hot and dry and the water evaporates fast, which pushes your chemistry around quickly, and autumn drops a lot of leaf litter in. We will recommend a schedule that suits your pool and your budget rather than selling you visits you do not need.
Do you service my suburb?
We service Canberra and surrounding areas, including Gungahlin, Belconnen, Woden, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong, the Inner North and Inner South, Molonglo Valley, plus Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, Googong and Murrumbateman. If your suburb is not listed, call 0427 444 943 and ask.
Can you come out the same day?
Usually, yes. We currently hold same day availability most weeks. Call in the morning and there is a good chance we can be at your pool that afternoon.
FAQ

Pool cleaning

What is included in a standard pool clean?
Testing and balancing your chemicals, emptying the pump basket, emptying the skimmers, emptying the pool cleaner bag, skimming the surface for debris, brushing the pool walls, vacuuming the pool, a general inspection of all equipment and an email summary of the visit. That is the $90 plus chemicals package.
Do you offer one off pool cleans, or only regular services?
Both. Plenty of Canberra customers start with a one off clean after a holiday, a storm or a long winter, then move onto a regular schedule once they see the difference. There is no obligation to go regular.
How long does a pool clean take?
A standard service on an average Canberra backyard pool takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour. A first clean on a neglected pool takes longer and we will tell you before we start.
Do you vacuum the pool, or does my pool cleaner do that?
We vacuum it. Suction and robotic cleaners do a good job on light debris but they miss corners, steps and anything heavy that has settled. Manual vacuuming is part of every standard service.
Can you clean a pool that has not been touched in months?
Yes. Neglected and green pools are some of the most satisfying work we do. It is quoted separately from the standard package because it takes longer and uses more chemicals, and we will give you the figure before we start.
FAQ

Maintenance and servicing

What is the difference between a pool clean and pool maintenance?
A clean is the physical work: skimming, brushing, vacuuming and emptying baskets. Maintenance is the whole picture: keeping the water chemistry right, watching the pump, filter and chlorinator, and catching wear before it becomes a repair bill. Our standard service does both in the one visit.
How often should pool maintenance be done in Canberra?
Fortnightly through the warmer months and monthly through winter suits most Canberra pools. Pools under gum trees, pools with heavy use or pools with older equipment often want fortnightly all year.
Will you tell me if something is about to fail?
Yes, and in writing. Every service ends with an email summary, and if the pump is getting noisy or the chlorinator cell is on its way out, that goes in the summary so you can plan for it instead of being caught out on a hot weekend.
Do you look after pools for landlords and property managers?
Yes. A scheduled service with a written summary after every visit is exactly what a property manager needs for their file, and it keeps the pool compliant and swimmable between tenancies.
Can you look after my pool while I am away?
Yes. Holiday cover is one of the more common reasons people call. We service on a set schedule while you are away and email you a summary each visit, so you come home to clear water rather than a green surprise.
FAQ

Water and chemicals

What does pool chemical balancing actually involve?
We test your water on site for chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabiliser and salt where relevant, then dose accurately to bring each level back into range. You get the readings and what we added in your email summary.
How often should pool water be tested in Canberra?
Every visit. Canberra gets hot dry summers, cold winters and big temperature swings between day and night, and all of that moves your water chemistry around faster than people expect. Testing every service is the cheapest insurance there is.
Why does my chlorine disappear so quickly in summer?
Usually low stabiliser, high water temperature and strong Canberra sun burning chlorine off faster than the chlorinator can make it. It is a fixable problem once the water has been tested properly rather than guessed at.
My eyes sting after swimming. Is that too much chlorine?
Almost always the opposite. Stinging eyes and a strong chlorine smell usually mean the pH is out and chloramines have built up, not that the water is over chlorinated. A proper test tells you in two minutes.
Do you charge for chemicals separately?
Yes. The standard service is $90 plus chemicals, so you pay for what your pool actually needs on the day rather than an averaged rate that covers someone else’s pool.
FAQ

Inspections

What is included in a pool inspection?
A full walk around of the pool and its equipment: pump, filter, chlorinator, plumbing, skimmers, returns and the pool surface and waterline, plus a full water test. You get a written summary of what is working, what needs watching and what needs fixing.
I am buying a house with a pool. Can you inspect it before I sign?
Yes. A pre purchase pool inspection is one of the cheapest checks you can do on a property, because pool equipment is expensive and problems are easy to hide behind clear looking water on inspection day.
Is this the same as an ACT pool barrier or fence inspection?
No. We inspect the pool and its equipment, not the safety barrier certification. Pool fencing compliance in the ACT is a separate process and we will point you in the right direction if that is what you need.
How long does an inspection take?
Usually under an hour on a standard backyard pool, and you get the written summary the same day.
FAQ

Repairs and equipment

What pool equipment do you repair?
Pumps, filters, chlorinators, salt cells, skimmers, plumbing and general equipment faults. We diagnose the actual problem first and give you a straight repair or replace recommendation.
Do you install new filters and pumps?
Yes. Filter installations are a big part of what we do, and because we service the pool afterwards, the gear gets sized and set up by the person who has to live with it.
How do I know whether to repair or replace?
We will tell you honestly. If a repair buys you several more seasons, that is the recommendation. If you are about to spend half the price of a new unit on a fifteen year old pump, we will say so.
Do you do emergency repairs?
We do what we can, and we hold same day availability most weeks. Call as early as you can and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you today.
Do you take on pool renovations?
No. Resurfacing, retiling and structural work is a different trade. We keep to servicing, maintenance and equipment work, and we would rather refer you on than pretend otherwise.
